William D. McPhee

Bill McPhee founded Mi3 Venture Partners in 1999 based on his insight that applying engineering to novel biology was a superior method to optimizing venture returns. Bill has particular expertise working with companies to develop their strategic vision, as well as negotiating and structuring complex financial and acquisition transactions. He represents Mi3 on the Boards of IMCOR Pharmaceuticals and VueSonix.

Prior to founding Mi3, Bill spent over twenty years in operations and strategy consulting, starting with Bain and Company and later founding and building, two successful professional service organizations. Bill has worked with senior level management from a number of leading firms in the health care sector, including Warner-Lambert, the Indiana University School of Medicine, and several hospital and primary care organizations.

Bill received his L.L.B. (equivalent to a JD) and B.Sc. (Hons. Physiological Psychology) from McGill University. He has been interviewed by Imaging Economics on venture capital issues, co-authored a peer reviewed article on "Activity Based Costing in Academic Radiology Practices" published in Radiology, and been invited to speak before a breast disease task force of the Institute of Medicine. Recently, Bill was invited by the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (part of the NIH) to represent the venture capital industry on its Biomedical Entrepreneurial Science Working Group.

Roger D. Kitterman

Roger Kitterman joined Mi3 Venture Partners in 2003. Roger is an experienced venture capital investor and has guided multiple venture-backed companies through the earliest stages of development. He represents Mi3 on the Board of FlowMedica.

Roger has over ten years of venture capital experience investing in healthcare companies. He has also been the startup CEO for three venture-backed companies. Prior to joining Mi3, he was a managing director at Lee Munder Venture Partners, the venture capital arm of Lee Munder Capital Group. He joined Lee Munder from Boston University’s Community Technology Fund, where he made venture capital investments in the life sciences and developed spinouts from the university. Roger began his venture capital career in Eastern Europe with the Bulgarian-American Enterprise Fund, a $55 million venture capital fund. Roger’s track record includes investments in AtheroGenics (NASDAQ: AGIX), Exact Sciences (NASDAQ: EXAS), NitroMed (NASDAQ: NTMD), and Sequenom (NASDAQ: SQNM).

Roger received his M.B.A. (Finance and Business Development) from the Columbia School of Business and his B.A. from Harvard College.

Ronald B. Schilling, Ph.D.

Ron joined Mi3 Venture Partners in 2000. Ron brings a wealth of operating experience to help guide young companies, particularly in the area of introducing new products to the market. He represents Mi3 on the Boards of Quick Study Radiology and superDimension.

Ron has 35 years of operating and general management experience in the medical device and technology industries. Ron was formerly Senior Vice President and General Manager of Toshiba America Medical Systems and during his tenure increased revenue from $85M to $400M in four years. Prior to his position at Toshiba, Ron helped shape the evolution of Magnetic Resonance Imaging as President of the MRI Division of Diasonics. Ron also spent seven years at General Electric Medical Systems, where he held several positions: Director of Computerized Tomography Marketing, Director of Far Eastern Operations, Director of Strategic Planning, and General Manager of GE's X-Ray business. Prior to his entering the diagnostic imaging market Ron spent fifteen years in the field of integrated circuits and microprocessors at RCA and Motorola.

Ron obtained his Ph.D. (Electrical Engineering) from Polytechnic Institute of New York, his M.S. (Electrical Engineering) from Princeton University and a B.S. from the City College of New York. Ron has served on the Board of Advisors of the Society for Computer Applications in Radiology (SCAR), where he recently received an outstanding achievement award. Ron was elected a Fellow of AIMBE (the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of medical and biological engineering.

Mark J. Carvlin, Ph.D.

Mark joined Mi3 in 2000. Mark has unique experience integrating scientific development with business principles to maximize the marketability of new products.

Mark has over ten years experience developing new imaging-related products, ranging from discovery to marketplace deployment in North America, Japan and Europe. In a seven-year career with Bracco Diagnostics Inc. Mark reported to the CEO and served as a Member of the Executive Committee. At various times Mark was Senior Director of: Product Development & Planning; Government & Business Relations; and, Medical Services & Planning. Prior to Bracco, Mark spent 4 years at Bristol-Myers Squibb in Princeton NJ, where he was Senior Market Manager, Magnetic Resonance Products; Medical Director, Worldwide Strategic Product Planning; Associate Director, Clinical Development; and Senior Manager, Worldwide Business Development. Before joining BMS, Mark was an Assistant Professor of Radiology at Georgetown University Hospital over a 4-year period.

Mark holds a Ph.D. (Biophysics) from the Roswell Park Cancer Institute and a B.A. (Physics) from Holy Cross. Mark then pursued a biomedical imaging Research Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania and an NIH Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Rochester.

Eileen Driscoll joined Mi3 on a part-time basis in 2000. Eileen provides interim financial management services to entrepreneurial companies. Before starting her consulting practice, she was CFO of a venture-backed company and controller at a public software company after a 10 year career at Price Waterhouse.

Eileen holds a B.S. (Accounting) from Bentley College and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Jean O'Connor

Jean O’Connor joined Mi3 in 1999. She brings 15 years of administrative and financial experience in start-ups and growing companies. Prior to Mi3, Jean was with The Lucas Group, a management consulting firm, where she was responsible for both the finance and administrative departments and built the infrastructure required to grow the practice from 5 to 30 professionals. Jean has a BA from the University of Bridgeport, Connecticut.
